Dr. Katherine Tanaka attended the University of Southern California for her dental degree and graduated in 1991. For over 35 years she has practiced in her hometown, Chula Vista. She has enjoyed watching Chula Vista grow over the years and loves her local community.
Dr. Tanaka has been recognized by her peers by being voted as a "Top Dentist" featured in San Diego Magazine since the inception of topDentists for 18 years in a row (2007 - 2025). The significance of this honor is that that the decision to be included in this select group of dentists is made by dentists within San Diego County and is based upon criteria such as knowledge, experience, techniques, and successful treatments. It is an honor to be recognized by your peers within the dental community. She also is honored to be named as one of "America's Best Dentists" for the past 11 years (2016 - 2026).
Dr. Tanaka has been a member of the Chula Vista Rotary Club since 1992. Rotary International is the world's first service club. Dr. Tanaka served as a volunteer coordinator for a dental clinic for 23 years and traveled several times a year to Ensenada, Mexico with the International group, Thousand Smiles Foundation, a Rotary International project. She served as President for the group as well as served on the Board of Directors for many years. Dr. Tanaka also volunteered for a local Rotary District 5340 project, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), which honors students in their Junior year of High School at a leadership weekend in Idyllwild, California for 8 years. She also has been a member of a women's 501(c)3 philanthropy group, Las Primeras, since 2007.
